Exploring the Transformative Power of Souls Connecting for Creativity
My editor, Shlomit Lica, presented me with three potential boutique publications. I engaged in both online and in-person meetings with these publications. I had in mind a specific reveal date for my book “It All Began with Caroline.”
On March 31st, 2022, this vision became a reality, despite its challenging nature.
And by now, you must know I don’t readily accept “it’s not going to happen” as an answer! “It may not happen with you, my darling but trust me, this will be my date!”
I had a reason. A Good one.
I spoke with Yifat of Gam and Gam Publishing. Yifat was sweet but effectively set boundaries. “Sorry, Nava, it’s too late now. I need to pick up my kids. Let’s talk tomorrow,” she said.
She didn’t know I had sent the messages from Florida, which resulted in a morning-time communication for me.
She is a great mom, but I hated waiting for tomorrow to receive answers.
Yup, “now” is more like it for me.
Eventually, I reconnected with her. The contract was signed, funds were transferred, and we embarked on a new path. She understood my creative vision and informed me that her husband, Moran, would collaborate on the cover design.
“This is just what I need! To work with a couple,” I thought to myself.
Then came the surprise. Are you ready for this?
A 10-page questionnaire for my vision, points, likes, dislikes, and desires for my cover design.
Let’s just say it didn’t quite resonate with my expectations.
This led to a call to Yifat requesting—okay, demanding—a Zoom meeting with her husband, Moran.
We set the time. 11:00 a.m. the following morning
11:00 a.m. came, and on the Zoom screen appeared a shy and sweet guy. I started complaining about the background of his Zoom screen. I can be annoying at times. Okay, most of the time.
But hey, let me assure you that Zoom meetings can be personal. Maybe not as in-person ones, but close enough for me to sense the person on the screen.
The talk with Moran transformed all my worries.
Our minds connected; after all, two designers have a touch of wild minds. In my case, perhaps more than a touch!
We bonded over telling him about my storyline, I was sharing my own life tips, and we infused humor into the experience.
To my astonishment, just a few days later, I received five exceptional sketches for the cover. Each captured the essence of my story, yet I held a distinct vision in mind, as I always work from the end goal. My readiness extended even to the prospect of a potential TV adaptation. So I needed the cover to be vertical. But I still loved the “New York taxi” cover, which was horizontal. So, my newfound friend Moran added it to the back of the book.
He clearly aligned with my vision! We were a match!
Undoubtedly, the journey had its hurdles. From individuals trying to direct my path for their benefit to a proof editor falling ill, and with my luck, Moran also got COVID-19.
However, Moran’s dedication and tireless efforts included finishing the book’s layout and pulling an all-nighter Zoom meeting with me!
On the highly anticipated March 31st, Moran and his wife, Yifat, joined me at the Brown Lighthouse Hotel for the book release event. It became a celebration of both our hard work and the blossoming friendship between us.
Later Yifat and Moran came to the book week events in Tel Aviv with their two sweet kids.
He designed bookmarks, chocolate covers, stand-up roll-ups, candy wrappers, and stickers.
He also designed my website, suggesting I will add a blog.
At first, I was not sure. As if, “Yeah, right, this is what I need in my life, another place to write in.”
Yet, I found out he was right; I kept this blog and made my 4th post about him. That will show him, right?
But I’m really looking forward to teaming up with Moran on lots of other exciting projects.
Stay tuned as I eagerly anticipate sharing more details about my next book, “It All Continued with Albert,” complete with the incredible cover design Moran crafted.
